Katarina Witt started skating at age five. Her talents soon became evident and she was accepted to a special school for children with a talent to play sports in Karl-Marx-Stadt. They got to know Jutta Muller in this school. Breakthrough year Witt's breakthrough came in 1982 when she finished second in the World Championships in Copenhagen. Since that time her elegance and grace caught everyone's attention. She began to dominate this particular sport. Olympic victory Katarina Wit won gold in ice skating for women during Sarajevo Winter Games 1984. Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a highly competitive and intense contest. In a tighter competition four years later, Witt won the gold medal. Free skates were an unbeatable loss. However, the gold medal was awarded to her because of her performances in both the compulsory figures (short programme) and the compulsory figures. Witt is the only repeat woman to win the women's figure skating in the sport since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame After enjoying the success of an actress, Witt returned to the sport to compete at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games. Witt was seventh in the competition, and she delighted the crowd even though she didn't win a medal. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame on the 15th of April, 1995.
